Green Peas Curry With Coconut: How to make

Green Peas Masala is a tasty, spicy dish made by cooking peas in a onion tomato & curd based gravy. It is a healthy gravy for Chapati, Roti, Parotta and Rice Meal.

Green Peas Curry

Ingredients

  • Grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Fennel Seeds – ½ Teaspoon
  • Shallots – 2 Nos
  • Dried Green peas – 1 cup
  • Onion, small sized – 1 Nos, finely sliced
  • Chopped Tomato – ¼ cup
  • Green chillies – 2 Nos, sliced
  • Turmeric powder – ⅛ Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala -½ Teaspoon
  • Naturaa Coconut oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste

 

Preparation

  • Step 1

    Wash and soak the dried green peas for 6-8 hours. Then drain the water and keep the green peas.
  • Step 2

    Coarsely grind together the ingredients listed under 'For Coconut Masala' without water. Set aside.
  • Step 3

    Heat 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil in a pressure cooker. Add in the sliced onion, green chillies and saute until the onion turns light brown in color.
  • Step 4

    Then add in the chopped tomato and saute until the tomatoes are mashed well.
  • Step 5

    Add in the turmeric powder, garam masala and fry for 1-2 minutes on low-medium heat.
  • Step 6

    Now add in the soaked green peas and mix well.
  • Step 7

    Pour enough water, salt and combine well. Pressure cook till the green peas are cooked well( 2-3 whistles, approx:).
  • Step 8

    Once the pressure is settled down, open the cooker and add in the prepared coconut paste and combine well
  • Step 9

    Cook for another 5 minutes on medium heat. Remove from heat.
  • Step 10

    Heat 1 Tablespoon coconut oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds.
  • Step 11

    Add in the sliced shallots, curry leaves and fry till golden brown.
  • Step 12

    Pour it over the green peas curry and mix well.
  • Step 13

    Serve warm with palappam, idiyappam, chappathi etc.
